★★★★★

Spacious, clean, family-friendly shop. New location is much bigger, allowing for larger tournaments, increased inventory, and more more open play space. Great selection of MTG, TTRPG, board games products and more. Wide variety of comics, both single issues and trades. My wife appreciates their diverse indie titles, which can be difficult to find elsewhere. Owners and staff are knowledgable, friendly, and helpful. If something not in stock, they are willing to order it for you, which is awesome! Magic tournaments and role-playing sessions are regularly scheduled and begin on time. One of my favorite shops in the greater Sacramento area.

I originally came for Yugioh and had my fun there, but eventually was drawn to magic. Bought my first precon here and was quickly taught just how high the sealing was by a certain Shanid player. Now magic and this shop have been a part of my life ever since. This shop has not only given me great memories, but good friends as well.

Nine8 Comics is one of the best shops I've been to. It supports it's community, is welcoming to new people, and you can tell that every person working at Nine8 genuinely loves the hobbies they support and wants to provide opportunities to allow other people to fall in love with these things too. They provided me with beginner decks to teach my 9yo daughter how to play Magic. They're trade-in prices are fair (above many other stores in the area), and they're knowledgeable and helpful about pretty much everything on offer. Most impressive to me is that the example that the owners of this shop have set has cultivated a community of great people. When I went in to buy some of the first booster packs my daughter has ever owned, I ran into a guy I played at a Magic the Gathering prerelease event about a week and a half before. When he heard I came in to buy my daughter packs, he paid to double my number of packs to put in my daughter's Xmas stocking. Lastly, the store has a food pantry on offer and supports the security and sense of community for the city they're located in, and they have a sense of conviction about it. I saw that someone else left a review here, criticizing the political stance of some of the owners. While I admittedly find myself aligning more with the owners here, I think that politics mean little without intention, and it is clear to me that the people who run Nine8 comics do nearly everything they do to give to their customers, community, and provide a welcoming environment to anyone who would offer the same. They want to sit across the table from any person who can get excited about gaming hobbies, be kind, respectful, and play a good game. That kind of philosophy makes me a lifetime customer.

Nine8 brings a fantastic sense of community to the area. From regular games of Magic, Pokemon, and DnD, to tournaments, to a monthly comic book club, they are far more than just a store and I thoroughly enjoy every time I go in. The staff are all as knowledgeable as they are friendly, and if one employee doesn't have an answer to something they're always willing to follow up with another employee who will. It really feels like they know their regulars too, showing off and recommending cool items they got in based on their recollection of my preferences. Perhaps most important for the community building aspect, they've fostered an environment where their regulars are as cool and friendly as their staff, and everyone can feel welcome and safe in a time of great turmoil. If I had one minor complaint it's that their online subscription and pre-order system is not my favorite, but it was not built in-house and on the rare occasion I've had an issue with it, they've all been super friendly and ready and able to solve the issue. In short, this shop has become a regular spot for me and it's nice to feel such a strong sense of community for the first time in the decade I've lived here.
