“I have fond memories of ABC Hobbycraft. My father knew the original owner, Ken Ballard. The original location was a shotgun style building with a tall ceiling, across from the old Central High School and Central Gym. Model aircraft of all kinds were displayed hung from wires, as if in flight. My first trip there was in 1960 and I was amazed at all the trains, planes and automobiles on display. The store moved into a larger location a couple of blocks nearer Main Street in an old paint store with triple the floor space. One room was dedicated to slot cars, with a road course and a drag strip. I was into slot cars and built my own. In high school, I worked there part time. I helped move ABC into it’s current location in about 1968.”
