“I want to be fair here: I missed the return window, so that part is on me. But I do know my way around retro hardware, and this one had issues that should have been caught before it hit the shelf. Picked up an NES listed as tested. Within a few sessions it became clear something was wrong, the console would run for maybe 5 to 7 minutes and then fall apart. Opened it up and found a CPU running so hot it was practically trying to melt itself, and a CIC chip with a missing leg. These aren't subtle problems. A missing leg on a CIC chip is visible to the naked eye, and a CPU that's thermal throttling into failure is going to show itself pretty quickly under any real burn-in test. I ended up harvesting the usable chips for a different build, so it wasn't a total loss. But I wouldn't have bought it at that price knowing what was actually inside. I still like what GameBound is doing for the local retro scene. Just hoping they tighten up their inspection process. A visual check for broken or missing legs and a longer runtime test before something gets tagged as tested and sold would go a long way.”
